Closets Are for Clothes
Closets Are for Clothes
Closets Are For Clothes. Celebrate pride month by experiencing a musical kaleidoscope of “coming out” stories at Constellation on June 23rd at 8:30PM.

With support from the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Civic Orchestra Fellow John Heffernan commissioned three rising Chicago-based LGBTQ composers, Kelley Sheehan, Devin Clara Fanslow, and Sean Ellis Hussey, to recreate and reflect on their personal coming out stories through music: Closets Are For Clothes. The resulting works will be performed by an intimate chamber ensemble comprised of Chicago’s finest (and LGBTQ) musicians John Heffernan (violin), Alex Liedtke (oboe), Alex Hecker (bass clarinet), and Jordan Thomas (harp). Following the performance join all composers and musicians for a vibrant and honest discussion on the music and the queer perspectives behind them.

This celebration of music and life will be a night to remember, reminding us that the LGBTQ narrative is and should be an integral part of classical music. Closets are for Clothes, not people.
