Saxophonist Urs Leimgruber is known as a key member of the European scene of contemporary improvised music. The duo In Motion by Leimgruber and an award-winning Chicago-based dance artist Ayako Kato, who has been collaborating with music improvisers for over 20 years, took place in Switzerland in 2014, 2016 and 2018. Finally, their radical, philosophical and multidimensional journey of cosmic ephemera through sound and movement will be shared in Chicago. Reinhard Kager states that Leimgruber's improvised music is "delicately sophisticated and often quite abstract, with noticeable connections to the compositions of new music" and "allows much more space for the expression of the quiet – a sort of contemplative essence," embodying "eloquent silence" for Leimgruber's seventh solo CD, “Broken Silence.” On Kato, Newcity Stage called “Stillness is one of the most powerful tools in a skilled choreographer’s hands. … Kato is able to evoke whole landscapes in single exhalation."

The evening also features sound and movement duo from Boston, Buzz: Jorrit Dijkstra, saxophone & Jessica Roseman, dance, which explores their connection through breath, vibrations, resonance, rhythmic patterns, and physical contact. Peter Maunu, strings & Damon D. Green, dance from Chicago will join with their masterful sensitivity and skills to intertwine various sonic and kinetic dynamism. The evening offers three sets of drastically different sound and movement scope, relationships, and perceptions over tangible through intangible; internal through external; silence through stillness.
