The Bridge Trio
The Bridge Trio
With roots deep in the New Orleans tradition, the Bridge Trio is made up of drummer Joe Dyson, pianist Conun Pappas, and bassist Max Moran, all alumni of New Orleans saxophone master Donald Harrison’s band. Having enjoyed steadily increasing professional recognition and success in the jazz world as band members of such jazz greats, the members of Bridge Trio bring forth their own innovative, original compositions in a small-combo format. Their music merges modern dance musics such as r&b, hip-hop, soul, rock, and jazz with Afro-New Orleans traditional music. They are a very unique trio of young musicians who stand strong as members of the next line of jazz virtuosos to come out of the thriving music traditions of New Orleans.

Joe Dyson - drums
Max Moran - upright/electric bass
Conan Pappas - keyboards/piano

“These three musicians are deeply connected to the roots of New Orleans music while…never shying away from taking the music in new directions… the focus is on making music as an ensemble, gracefully weaving textures over ever-changing dynamics that displays a musical maturity far beyond the band’s years.” - Offbeat Magazine

The Great American Songbook has been a connecting thread through out the history of jazz and musicians who incorporate "Jazz Standards" into their repertoire are faced with the challenge of recreating these songs in every performance, trying to present them in a unique and individual way. The Utopian Songwriting Project is based on this century-long tradition among jazz musicians, focusing on Brazilian songs and songwriters. On this performance, musicians Marcelo Boccato, Tito Carrillo, Geof Bradfield, Clark Sommers and Dana Hall will collectively explore the Brazilian Songbook. Interpreting songs by Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Egbert Gismonti, Geraldo Vandré and Toninho Horta, the quintet creates music based on group improvisation that draws from their unique individual musical backgrounds as well as the rich and diverse universe of Brazilian popular music.
