J e l l o is a new dance series started by the innovative Jessica Cornish and run by Tuli Bera & Carla Gruvy

This will be the eighth installment of the series.

Every artist is given documentation of their work. A place to try new things, new ideas, works-in-process, polished things, whatever!

J e l l o creates a space for dance artists to experiment, create, risk, and try.

The J e l l o Performance series provides a platform for performance artists to experiment, create, risk and try! As a jello artist, you have access to a performance space, production/lighting resources and a very supportive audience. PLUS, you are provided FREE video documentation and photographs of your work!

Previous j e l l o artists have shown works from the past, works in progress as well as excerpts from current work.

Helen Lee
Helen Lee is a choreographer and dancer and obtained her BA in Dance and Theatre from University of Hawaii. While in Honolulu, she studied Butoh with Lori Othani as a company member of Tangentz Performance Group. She received her 200hr yoga certification from Chicago Yoga Center, her 300hr yoga certification from Rishikesh Yog Peeth in India and Pilates mat certified through Pilates Chicago. Passionate about movement, languages of the body, she has coached bootcamps and yogi trainings, taught yoga to dancers at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, facilitated lectures and posture clinics for teacher training programs, teaches barre and dances at lighthouses and for The Humans. She has been teaching for the past 10 years all over Chicago and other parts of America and has had the opportunity to teach in Belize, Mexico, Italy, China and India. Helen enjoys eating kale, practicing her whistle and secretly wishes to be a breakdancer.
Brandon Avery
Brandon Avery
Brandon Avery spent 12 years of self-instruction in urban dance technique until he joined ClearVision Dance Team in 2006. Though he completed a major in Educational Studies and a primary minor in Psychology at Knox College, he extensively explored opportunities of his Dance Studies secondary minor. Upon matriculation, Avery took his first formal dance technique course, Beginning Modern, and thereafter studied numerous genres of dance (i.e. ballet, jazz, musical theatre, kick/pom/stunt, bachata, liturgical, contemporary, flamenco, site-specific, improvisation, cumbia, afro-contemporary, dancehall) from artists and companies such as Jeremy Lindberg of the University of Oklahoma, Dereque Whiturs of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Joel Hall Dancers, and Gus Giordano Dance School.

Avery has performed for The Shrine of Chicago, IL; Joel Hall Dancers of Chicago, IL; #DreamChasers Foundation of Chicago, IL; and The Orpheum Theater of Galesburg, IL. He has choreographed works for the Knox College Dance Program and coached for Thornwood High School Cygnets Dance Team. Currently, he teaches for UChicago Charter Schools, Red Clay Dance, Performance Theater & Dance Youth Academy, and Ovation Academy of Performing Arts.

Brandon Avery is a native of South Holland, IL.
