A-Squared Festival Workshop: (a bit of) Ensemble Thinking
A-Squared Festival Workshop: (a bit of) Ensemble Thinking
For this Chicago workshop, Lower Left artists, Andrew Wass, Kelly Dalrymple Wass, and Margaret Paek will facilitate a short but deep venture into Ensemble Thinking. Using this technique, we will examine the perception and creation of dynamic, spontaneous group composition. Andrew and Kelly arrive from Berlin where they make dances, teach, and Andrew is working on his PhD. After ten years in New York, Margaret relocated to Appleton, Wisconsin in 2015 to teach dance at Lawrence University.

This workshop is for all experience levels. Come with an open mind and a willing body. Please wear comfortable clothes you can dance in without much hardware (zippers, etc.) that could impede movement. We will work in bare feet.

Lower Left
Formed in 1994 in San Diego, Lower Left is a collaborative group of dance artists, educators, creators, and performers who now live in multiple states and countries. Lower Left is dedicated to the spontaneous combustion inherent in the collective process, choosing to rely on the combined artistic vitality of its artists rather than the hierarchy of the traditional dance company. The ensemble’s commitment to teaching aims to propel adventurous movers beyond their perceived ideas of dance and the creative process. Signature techniques include Ensemble Thinking (teacher training coming in 2017), Contact Improvisation, and ReWire States work.
