Physical Festival
Physical Festival
In 2014, Alice da Cunha and Marc Frost launched the inaugural Physical Festival through the Artistic Associate program at Links Hall. The inspiration for the Festival drew upon their combined experience in London as physical theater students at the London International School for the Performing Arts (LISPA). Moving from London to Chicago, they were inspired to start a new festival to promote a more progressive, fresh and physical approach to theater-making in Chicago. Physical very much follows in the tradition of the great European theater festivals such as the London International Mime Festival (LIMF) and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, to name a few.
Lake Simons
Lake Simons
Performed by Lake Simons, ETIQUETTE UNRAVELED is a comedic solo piece that spotlights the struggle to live an organized life when chaos prevails. To escape the mundane patterns of life, she dives into her make believe world of imagination. Driven by curiosity, she’s lead into a series of vignettes that begin with order but swiftly unravel…leaving her fantasy world in tatters. A tea party with a misbehaving guest, a chance meeting culminating in a kiss, a captain at sea, a cowboy taming his mare, and a final duet make up a day-in-the-life of ETIQUETTE UNRAVELED.

Lake Simons (Co-creator, director & performer) is a theatre artist based in New York City with strong ties to Fort Worth, Texas. She is a director, designer, choreographer, puppeteer, builder, painter, and performer. She makes theatre productions that utilize puppetry, movement, and live music. But most importantly she relies on make-believe. Lake has collaborated with many distinguished artists creating theatre productions from the ground up. Her creations have been performed in New York City, Fort Worth, Boston, and Edinburgh, Scotland. Having grown up in the theatrical family: Hip Pocket Theatre (founded 38 years ago by her father and mother), her training in theatre started at a young age. Early on Lake was exposed to puppetry, dance, and mime. She has continued in the footsteps of both her father and her mother, making theatre that is original and playful for the past 16 years.

CIRCO DE TU CORAZON
Circo de tu Corazon with James Donlon, Alina Cenal and Karen Hoyer. These three performers with their combined expertise in mime, mask, clown, improvisation, music and dance, create a world and people it with a mixed bag of eccentric characters. The trio invites the audience to follow a circus, lost somewhere in South America, delivering it up in a style somewhere between reality and fantasy, evocative of Garcia Marquez's magical realism. These personalities, defined by half masks and costume pieces, speaking in a mixture of spanglish and gibberish, tell their stories of love and yearning and the desire to abandon the drudgery of the real world and risk a life of passion and love.
