Matt Ulery's Loom Large
Matt Ulery's Loom Large
Matt Ulery debuts a brand new orchestra project at Constellation with Loom Large. On his latest double album, “Festival” (October 2016/Woolgathering Records), he augmented his quintet, Loom, for two of the thirteen tracks into a 23-piece
big band+strings. For this special performance, Ulery leads a 17-piece jazz orchestra featuring some of Chicago’s finest playing two sets of all original music including fresh arrangements of Ulery’s highly acclaimed work from seven albums.

Chicago based bassist/composer and bandleader, Matt Ulery, has developed an instantly recognizable sound. Known for his sweeping lyricism, unconventional phrase structures, expressionistic emotionalism, Ulery’s music, from small, diverse chamber ensembles to full orchestras, is informed by the entire spectrum of jazz, classical, rock, pop, and folk– specifically American, South American, Balkan, and other European folk styles. He has been performing for 22 years on upright, electric, and brass basses.
