Third Coast Percussion & Eardrum: Currents
Third Coast Percussion & Eardrum: Currents
Currents is TCP’s musical laboratory. The ensemble tries new things and plays new music for the first time at one of Chicago’s hippest underground venues.

Tonight they will be joined by special guests Ear Drum Duo (Johannes Fischer and Domenico Melchiorre) and Annika Socolofsky (violin).

Katherine Young - just water, no lemon (world premiere, Emerging Composers Partnership)
José Martínez - Two Questions About Time (world premiere, Emerging Composers Partnership)
Annika Socolofsky - bellow (world premiere, Emerging Composers Partnership)
Iannis Xenakis - Peaux
Johannes Fischer - what is any ocean but a collection of drops

Third Coast Percussion is a Grammy Award-winning, artist-run quartet of classically-trained percussionists hailing from the great city of Chicago. For over ten years, the ensemble has forged a unique path in the musical landscape with virtuosic, energetic performances that celebrate the extraordinary depth and breadth of musical possibilities in the world of percussion. The ensemble has been praised for “commandingly elegant” (New York Times) performances, the “rare power” (Washington Post) of their recordings, and “an inspirational sense of fun and curiosity” (Minnesota Star-Tribune). The four members of Third Coast are also accomplished teachers, and since 2013, have served as ensemble-in-residence at the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.

The German/Swiss Eardrum Percussion Duo, founded in 2005 by Johannes Fischer and Domenico Melchiorre, works together with composers to enlarge the traditional percussion repertoire. In 2006 they were awarded the Carl-Seemann prize and won the first prize of the "German University Competition of Music". They are also laureates of the German "Culture and Industrial Competition". Eardrum has performed in Korea, Vietnam, Mongolia, China, Italy, Switzerland and Germany, and has commissioned and premiered new pieces by Nicolaus A. Huber, Gerald Eckert, Jeffrey Trevino and Dieter Mack.

“Virtuosity and deft, precisely timed wit” -Washington Post
