Jamire Williams
Jamire Williams
Jamire Williams is an avant-garde drummer who has worked with jazz legend Herbie Hancock, innovator Robert Glasper, and Tortoise’s Jeff Parker. ///// EFFECTUAL is his first full length album, produced by Carlos Niño, released by Stones Throw subsidiary Leaving Records. The album features French composer Chassol, Los Angeles composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, and GB (aka Frankie Reyes, Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker).

Jamire Williams is a drummer with a next-level capacity for groove, which has served him well as a sideman. He also has his own band, Erimaj — but on ///// EFFECTUAL, he pares down almost entirely to solo drum kit, creating a series of poetic experiments in rhythm and tonal color. The album, produced by Carlos Niño, recalls jazz precursors like Max Roach as well as hip-hop loops and West African folk drumming. – Nate Chinen, 12/2/16
